Big News in the Mormon World

Good morning! I hope you're having a great day so far. :)

Today is the second day of General Conference. Yesterday at the Saturday morning session the prophet, President Thomas S. Monson, made a big announcement. They're lowering the age that young men and young women can go on missions. Young men used to have to wait until they were 19 to go; now they can go at 18 (if they've graduated from high school, of course). Young women used to have to wait until they were 21; now they can go when they're 19.

Can you guys believe this? This is awesome! This is so exciting! As soon as he announced it, it was like, "This is genius! How have never thought of this before?" This will help so many of the guys that have a hard time between high school graduation and that year or so later until they can go. Now there's no awkward waiting peiod - they can go right away if they want to.

This will have a ton of implications for freshman at church schools like BYU, and I'll be interested to see how it all shakes out in the next couple years. How many guys will want to go at 18 instead of 19? Will the male freshman class at BYU jump in age to 20 year-old returned missionaries? How many more girls will go on missions now?

If this policy had been in place when I turned 19, I probably would have gone on a mission. I think a lot of girls will take advantage of this now that it's earlier and they can go sooner.

What are all your thoughts on this?

Now for the second order of business: look cute Ellie is! Jason took these pictures of us at Emily's birthday party last week.

Scripture study is still going good! Thinking about reporting it on here is definitely helping me remember. :)
